Dr. Shae Martin
Named "Veterinarian of the Year" in 1999 and 2002 by the Maui Humane Society and Maui's "Small Business Person of the Year" in 2004, Dr. Martin is a general small animal practitioner with professional interests in dermatology and internal medicine. Before opening Central Maui Animal Clinic in February 1999, Dr. Martin practiced as an associate veterinarian at several veterinary hospitals. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and the Maui Humane Society. Originally from New Zealand, Dr. Martin graduated in 1992 with a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of California at Irvine, then received her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1996 from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Martin is married to Clayton Matchett, a local equine veterinarian, and the couple have two young children, Aiden and Rylie. Currently Dr. Martin divides her time between New Zealand and Maui. It is a long commute, but well worth it! She plans to be working at West Maui Animal Clinic every three months.
Dr. Lisa Labrecque
Dr. Lisa Labrecque earned a B.A. degree in English from Tufts University in 1984 and then went on to a decade-long career in publishing. In the mid 1990s she went back to school to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. She completed the post-baccalaureate premedical program at Mills College, then went on to U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her D.V.M degree. Her past experience includes wildlife rehabilitation, working with African elephants, and research with sea urchins. She now devotes her time to small animal practice, rescue work, and spay/neuter programs. Dr. Labrecque is a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and her practice philosophy reflects this theme. She shares her home with two dogs, two cats, and a turtle. She hopes one day to have enough land to have elephants! In her spare time she enjoys yoga, ice skating, reading, and traveling.
Dr. Susan Baillie
Dr. Susan Baillie was born and raised in South Africa, and moved to the United States at 18. She was a preschool teacher for 8 years before deciding to go to vet school. She got her DVM at University of California- Davis and graduated in 2005. Her work focuses on small animals exclusively, and her special interests are geriatric medicine, pain management and nutrition.
